Social Media Marketing FAQ – Facebook LIVE #1

In my first ever Facebook Live Q&A session, I answer some of the frequently asked social media marketing questions, that I hear all the time.

The goal of these Facebook LIVE sessions is to provide business owners, managers, marketing managers, with as much value as possible, in hopes that you’ll stop making excuses when it comes to using social media to market your local business.  It’s no longer an opinion, it’s a fact, that half of the time spent on a mobile device is on a social network.  That means it’s time for you to get serious about using it as a branding AND a selling tool (yes, it can be both).  Enjoy the LIVE session.

Here’s 3 of the most common social media marketing questions I get asked.

1. What Social Network Should I Be Using?

First thing’s first.  You don’t need to be on all of them! In fact, I don’t recommend being on all of them because frankly, it’s a lot of work.  If you’re not going to be able to keep up and post frequently on each platform, then it’s not for you.

Here’s a quick overview of the most relevant social networks.

Facebook – This is a MUST. Everyone and their mom, literally, is on Facebook. It’s the go-to place for most people on their device and you need to be there. Period.

Instagram – A close second, this visually appealing app is home to over 700 million people. Most of which are between the ages of 18-35.

Snapchat – The camera app that hundreds of millions of people under 30 are using every day.

Pinterest – If you’re looking to reach women with your advertising, Pinterest needs to be considered.

YouTube – The number 2 search engine in the world! Show people how to do things with videos on this platform.

Twitter – If you’re a national brand, or in a metropolitan area. Also, use the Twitter search function to find people that are talking about your topic, and join the conversation.

LinkedIn – The soon to be Facebook of the B2B world (Business-to-Business).

2. What Do I Post on My Social Media Page?

If you don’t have a social media director, or graphic designer working in your business, you can still post content! You more than likely have a smartphone. The only content creation tool you’ll ever need.  Here’s a few ideas on what to post:

Photos or Videos – behind the scenes footage of how things are made, done, etc.

FAQ’s Answered – answer some common questions all of your customers ask, kind of like this.

Contests – give things away for likes, comments, and shares! Gift cards, free appetizers, whatever! People love winning things on FB.

Events – post your upcoming event to your page and share information about it.

Here’s a rule of thumb.  NEVER POST A TEXT-ONLY post. Everything you do must have a visual element, either a photo or a video.  Visual posts get more reach, engagement and results than anything without a visual element.

You also need to make sure your page has a great profile pic, cover photo and have all your business info filled out (hours, address, phone number, website, etc)

3. How Do I Get More Social Followers?

While this answer will change slightly from network to network, the overall theme of this becomes: POST GOOD CONTENT!  People will follow pages and profiles who share content that interests THEM.

Don’t get too hung up on follower count, though, especially for Facebook followers. This is due to the fact that organic reach is declining and you’ll be paying for more reach than you have followers.  If you’re using paid ads, and even posting great organic content, your follower count will increase as a byproduct of your efforts.

That about does it for the first session.  I hope this provides you with some value and gets you motivated to go out and create content for your audience.  I promise, do this and your business will grow.  Stay in front of your customers and potential customers on their mobile device, and they will reward you with their business.

Leave a question or comment if you have one, and I’ll see you soon!
